INTRODUCTION

American Facial Acupuncture Association

American Facial Acupuncture Association (AFAA) is a non-profit organization 501(c)(3) devoted to corrective treatments, specializing in facial acupuncture techniques for the head, face, and facial features. AFAA is an independent operating organization branched out from the original F.A.C.E. training organization- Taiwan Facial Acupuncture Society. We are dedicated to establishing an educational and academic exchange platform, fostering research and development in facial acupuncture within the Oriental Medicine practitioner community in the United States. By advancing professional knowledge and skills in facial acupuncture, we strive to empower practitioners and promote this natural alternative treatment method for the benefit of the public.

Facial Acupuncture: A Blend of Ancient Wisdom and Modern Techniques

What is facial acupuncture

This acupuncture technique highly depends on the practitioner’s skill,” states Dr. Jui-Pin Shen, President of the Taiwan Facial Acupuncture Medical Association. The creation of this technique draws from classical meridian theory, acupoints, sinew channels, and the skin regions, integrating modern anatomical knowledge of the layers of the head and face, including the skin, fat layers, fat compartments, ligaments, fascia, muscles, and even bones.

Dr. Jeong Hwa Song, the founder of the F.A.C.E. (Facial Acupuncture for Charm and Elegance) technique, along with her successor, President Jui-Pin Shen, have dedicated more than two decades to training professional F.A.C.E. (Facial Acupuncture) practitioners. They have developed curricula, established training and assessment systems, advanced physician training, evolved the technique, and created high-quality medical materials. Their efforts have successfully positioned the Taiwan Facial Acupuncture Society as the core training institution for F.A.C.E. Facial Acupuncture techniques. Using the association as a foundation, they bear the responsibility of promoting new Chinese medicine techniques. Dr. Jeong Hwa Song firmly believes that Dr. Jui-Pin Shen, as the leader of the F.A.C.E. Facial Acupuncture, not only enhances Taiwan’s facial acupuncture techniques but also steers the expansion of these techniques internationally.

In recent years, Professor Dr. Jeong Hwa Song has invited medical associations from various countries like the United States, Japan, South Korea, France, Australia, Italy, and other countries to learn from Dr. Jui-Pin Shen at the Taiwan Facial Acupuncture Society. They aim to understand how to build an educational system for training F.A.C.E. Facial Acupuncture practitioners. Through the most rigorous teaching standards, they hope to promote the F.A.C.E. Facial Acupuncture technique beyond Asia. Taiwan serves as a technological hub, fostering the growth of this technique with the aspiration that it will eventually be adopted worldwide. The benefits extend beyond beauty, offering potential contributions to disease treatment and societal well-being.

History

Dr Jeong Hwa Song in her early years of practice she specialized in treatment for Bell’s Palsy in Korea. She developed a special protocol to treat this condition and realized it actually not only improved Bell’s Palsy but also reversed the aging process on the face as well. This led her to further refine and perfect this technique and was later termed F.A.C.E. Facial acupuncture.

F.A.C.E. Facial Acupuncture

Facial Acupuncture refers to a specialized acupuncture medical technique performed by qualified Oriental Medicine practitioners, based on combined Oriental Medicine principles and Western anatomy and physiology, focusing on the head, face, and facial features. This technique involves minimally-invasive or non-invasive medical procedures such as acupuncture, microneedling, topical application, or internal administration of herbal medicine, aimed at improving bodily functions and appearance.
